SCAR PRE-CUT TRENCHING plough
WE THINK DIFFERENTLY
- SCAR Fabrication is complete and it is ready for work
- Ecosse Subsea have been offered support for offshore trials by Scottish Enterprise and NCS Surveys
The SCAR plough is a cleverly modified conventionally shaped plough with basic instrumentation designed to cut a 2.0m Trench with multi-pass, 1.4m trench with single pass.
It is designed to be launched and operated primarily from a conventional anchor handling vessel with no lifting apparatus, but depending on the location and soil type can be operated from any suitable vessel, e.g. a DSV.

Pre-cutting pipeline/ cable trenches
Method
First pass:
Take a pre survey of required trench route
Preset plough to correct cutting depth
Launch plough at start of burial position
Pull plough along the pre surveyed trench route
Recover plough at end of trench
Survey ploughed trench to ensure adherence with applicable requirements
Second pass:
Configure plough for multi pass
Setting front skids, mould boards and required depth
Launch plough in to pre cut trench
Tow plough along pre cut trench
Recover plough at end of trench
Post Lay bury of cables, pipelines etc
Method
Determine depth of bury required and type of pass, for example single pass or multi pass
Single pass:
Launch plough alongside product
Load product into plough using either, ROV/ Divers/ GLS
Pull Plough along specified route, which will be parallel to product, monitoring with ROV
There are two types of monitoring that could be used
The first being general monitoring
Second type of monitoring is when the ROV is docked
on to the plough which will operate the hydraulic
functions on the plough if applicable
This will provide pipe steering and sonar monitoring
Once end of trench is reached unload plough, recover plough and survey product in trench.
Multi pass:
Launch plough alongside product
Pull the plough parallel to product
Recover plough at end of trench and survey trench to see if another pass is necessary, if so repeat process until required depth is reached
Once depth is reached, load product to plough and pull along specific route
Recover plough once end of trench is reached and survey product in trench
