Naval Architect
We have currently a requirement for a Naval Architect for one of our overseas clients.
Main duties will include:
Work with project teams to provide;
- Advice and assistance in calculating vessel motions / stability / strength / lifting analysis
- Stability checks for project teams
- eview and approve lift analysis calculations for subsea and heavy lift operations
- Calculate vessel motions using strip theory and spectral analysis software
- Review and approve deck strength calculations, proposals for temporary equipment installations and sea-fastenings prepared by project teams and third party design consultants
Work with Asset Delivery, Operations and Marine Departments to:
- Provide technical advice and guidance on stability, ship structures and other issues
- Provide guidance on proposed modifications to Company vessels
- Design vessel modifications and upgrades
- Ensure dock block loading will not compromise the structural integrity of the vessel
- Carry out structural failure surveys and prepare repair procedures
- Undertake structural design calculations to class requirements
- Maintain vessel stability documentation and software
- Attend vessels as required
- Liaise with Certification and Flag State Authorities:
- To ensure that proposed vessel modifications meet current and any appropriate future standards regarding vessel stability and structural alterations
- Work with third party suppliers to ensure;
That sub-contracted design activities are adequately monitored, reviewed, and the results are recorded.
- Work with third party fabricators to solve fabrication and installation problems and ensure that the finished job is to best standard of workmanship.
- Cooperate with the Operations Manager to:
- - Ensure the accuracy of the technical documentation within Company policy
- - Compliance with the Company policy
- - Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the company quality control procedures
- - Any other duties as required by the Operations Manager
- Responsible for the design, construction and repair of ships and boats.
- Designing ships and boats, and related components and specialist equipment, using complex mathematical and physical models to ensure that the ship's design is satisfactory technically and that it complies with safety regulations;
- Planning the whole build process of a vessel, managing everything from concept through to delivery of the final product;
- Providing clients with engineering solutions, technical and commercial guidance, support and project management for concept design studies, new vessel constructions, refits and conversions;
- Generate drawings (conceptual, fabrication, as-built) under supervision of discipline lead.
- Maintain and update Electronic and hard copy of drawing register.
- Design as per project code and structural/mechanical components under engineer' supervision.
- Participate in fabrication and installation follow-up.
- Pro-active behaviour in Risk Assessment and QSHE application in drawings and designs
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Must be able to travel, easily obtain visa for countries
- Must be able to multi-task and handle heavy workload effectively
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interface with personnel at all levels, both verbally and in writing
- Possesses a high degree of maturity, integrity and energy levels, good judgment and listening capability
- Ability to meet new challenges with an open mind and an optimistic response
- Discipline capacity for analysis, synthesis and reporting including calculation and drafting using AutoCAD
- Marine, positioning, diving and lifting knowledge sufficient to communicate and advise experienced professionals
- Have excellent problem solving skills
- Must have comprehension for written or verbal graphic instructions
- Project Management skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- At least two years in a marine or offshore based environment gaining broad based experience.
- Experience in the use of software modeling tools
- Preferred Member or Graduate Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
- Engineering degree from four-year College or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Graduated in technical discipline with engineering level;
- 3 years' experience in engineering function;
